life in a new light.......

As a guide, observer and an aficionado I have been to some places in short time which has taught me a time of opulence in all ways. Some of those are Sakthan Thampuran palace museum, Hill palace museum, Mattanchery palace, Padmanabhapuram palace, Bolgatty palace, and so…..
“SAKTHAN PALACE”- was built in the 17th century where we can see the tomb of the great ruler ever seen in the history of Cochin HH Maharaja Rama Varma. There he ruled the princely state Cochin and people so prosperity.
“MATTANCHERY PALACE”- it is known as Dutch palace but it was built by the Portuguese in the 15th century, and gifted it to Maharaja of Cochin. Dutch did some renovation only but palace is known as Dutch palace. The palace is showcases intricate murals in tradition of Hindu temple art. Ramayana depicted in the 45murals, also a form of Vishnu in the form of Vaikuntha Natha as like in Thripunithura. The basement floor’s drawings on the wall are from Kumarasambhava of Kalidasa, and Krishna Leela, Siva Leela also.
“BOLGATY PALACE”- built in 17th century, palace was leased to British by Cochin Maharaja and till independence it was the residency of British Raj. It is now maintained by the KTDC as a heritage resort, we went for having a cup of tea but due to some reasons we left the place.
“HILL PALACE”- we heard of this through movies and haven’t visited but once we drop there we could understand the power of Maharajas and showcasing the riches and fortunes of the former royals who ruled three Princely states in Kerala since 15th century. The main attraction which I like is the garden and its compound, and when we enter into the palace after getting ticket we see a statue of Elephant which invites the guests by honor- caption of maharaja is Honor is the family virtue. Then the historic cabinet hall where Maharaja signed to merge with the Republic of India. Then we can see many material and ornaments crown, used by the rich Cochin royal family.
“ PADMANABHAPURAM”- it was in the first 2005 we had a family visit to the palace and at that time I could remember only one fact about that palace that is “ Maharaja stayed in a three storied building basement floor was his treasury first floor his bedroom second floor for the Lord Padmanabha” I never forget the wordings by the guide. Palace was built in 16th century and its names were Darbha- Kulangara, and Kalkulam later to the new Padmanabhapuram. Three storey building of Maharaja represent evolution of man through four levels of wealth- treasury, bedroom, retreat for meditation, and Lord.
